Weapon Policy

Overview

All props must be checked and approved at the prop check table before entering the convention space.

No actual weapon or item that can be easily mistaken for a weapon may be carried either openly or concealed at any time in convention space, regardless of any government permits the person may possess (exception is made, obviously, for local on duty Police or Sheriff's Deputies). A detailed list of items that are not allowed is available upon request. Personal pocket knives with single-edged blades less than 4 inches long are permitted.* Weapon-like props must be tagged and appropriately peace-bonded based on type and material; please see the Safety Staff for assistance. Props cannot be brandished and must be carried in a manner that does not present a threat to or hazard to others.

Weapons and Props
Poles and Staves
Poles and Staves should be no longer than 6ft, including flagpoles. They should be carried vertically, so as to not present a hazard to others.
Canes and Walking Sticks
Canes and walking sticks do not need to be tagged if they are being used for mobility and not easily mistaken for props.
Bats, Shields, and other Bludgeons
Bats, shields, and other bludgeons must be made of something other than metal and too light to be used as an actual weapon (hint: if you could use it in a proper baseball game, it's too heavy).
Airsoft, Paintball, and Realistic Replica Guns
Airsoft, paintball, and realistic replica guns are not permitted, even with orange tips.
Non-realistic Guns
Non-realistic Guns must be kept empty of all projectiles.
Swords and other Bladed Weapons
Swords and other bladed weapons must have dull blades made of non-metal material.
Lightsabers
Lightsabers cannot have metal hilts. Lightsaber blades may not make contact with other attendees' bodies or property, unless it is with consent while taking a photo. Stopping for photos with other attendees should not block the flow of traffic while in convention halls.
No Projectiles
Bows and crossbows can be strung and carried if they are too weak to launch a real arrow/bolt. Nerf bows and crossbows must be empty of all projectiles, and have none to be loaded.
At Safety's Leads Discretion
At Safety's leads discretion, some weapons that might otherwise violate this policy may be allowed if they can be peace bonded in such a way as to make them obviously inert such as locking a sword into its scabbard. This is handled on a case by case basis.
